One of the regions that is lovely and upcoming is Richmond, Virginia population 204,214 . The River City as it is known is the former capital of the Confederacy. It is a beautiful and historic city in the center of Virginia. It is culturally quite different from San Francisco.

Those who need to move from San Francisco (population 7.5 million the bay area) denizens may find it to be a bit of a change to move to Richmond. Richmond is a city that is pleasant a good bit of the year, but is very humid during the summer months. It is in the humid sub tropical climate zone average temp 67.9 degrees with hot summers and sometimes mild winters. This is opposed to San Francisco’s cool Mediterranean climate with an annual temp that rarely exceeds 75 degrees, or drops below 51. Distance to travel between the two cities is some 2,770 miles so a trip of this magnitude might best be left to professional movers. You can follow in your personal vehicles and enjoy the beautiful scenery and sights along the way.

One who is driving will find some interesting stops along the way. Probably the best route is to take I 80 East from San Francisco. The road passes through some unique and interesting territory.

One of the most interesting cities along the way is Salt Lake City home of the great Salt Lake. Salt Lake City is surrounded by beautiful snow capped peaks. One thing to do near the city is to enjoy the majestic marvel of the Great Salt Lake which is far saltier than the ocean.

Further along on the trip one may enjoy Laramie, Wyoming which is an old railroading town and was recently named as one of the best places to retire due to its low taxes and educational opportunities.

Continuing along I80 en route to Richmond one can find other interesting cities along the way. Grand Island Nebraska has a large shopping mall and will allow you to pick up supplies.

St, Louis where one will eventually pick up I64 East to head on their journey to Richmond has the Arch which is a major tourist attraction. While you’re in town, don’t forget to pick up some ribs and barbecue.

One can go through Louisville, Kentucky as they continue their journey East. They can see Churchill Downs where the Kentucky Derby is run. It is a beautiful city along the banks of the Ohio river and one that you will always remember.

One then crosses into Illinois, and continues onto Indiana. Don’t forget to visit the amusement park in Santa Claus Indiana where many letters to Santa come.

Beautiful West Virginia lies ahead and one can visit the beautiful Larchmont Center which houses West Virginia crafts.

I64 East will continue into Virginia. One can stop at the Frontier Museum in Staunton. A 3 hour journey from Staunton lies Richmond Virginia and your new home. You will be glad you have hired professional movers so you could see lovely sights along the way.
